Friday Favourites: No7 Nail Varnish

So I recently got a set of No7 nail varnishes from my friend as a Christmas present. I have only tried out one colour so far, and that is 'Damson Dream' (don't you just love the names of nail varnish colours?!).

It is actually a lot more reddy than it looks in the picture, and I think that it is quite a Christmassy colour. The nail varnish is slightly shimmery and it looks really pretty. It goes on well and after one coat your nails are looking pretty good, I still always go with two coats though. The other colours also look really nice, so I am excited to try those out as well.

À bientôt

Hi guys. So I just wanted to do a quick post to say that I will be away for a couple of weeks as I am off Skiing! I am quite looking forward to it, as I love skiing. I'm not too sure how I feel about being away again this Christmas. I was away last year and the year before so I would have quite liked to be at home this Christmas. Being on Holiday is great, but you miss out on all of the Christmas traditions. Like going to church  and then the pub on Christmas eve, and seeing all of my cousins on Christmas and Boxing day, and watching all of the Christmas specials on TV.

Anyway I have scheduled tomorrows Friday Favourites post, so we will see whether that works or not. Knowing me I have accidentally done it for the complete wrong day or something!

Have an a great Winter Break, Happy Christmas, and I'll be seeing you again in the New Year.

Advent Calendars

It is only 9 days til Christmas!

Since it is now single digits in the Christmas countdown I thought that I would do a Christmas related post. I don't know about you guys but I love advent calendars, and you can get some really cool ones, not just the traditional ones with little chocolates inside. My advent Calendar is one that you can re-use year after year. There are 24 little stockings all on a string, and you hang it up and put a little chocolate or present or whatever you want into each stocking. I share it with my brothers, so my parents put 4 chocolates into each stocking, and we each get one.

I'm getting a little bored of Chocolate advent calendars though, so next year I think that I will get a beauty advent calender. I didn't even know that these existed until a week or two ago, but they look amazing. They are quite expensive, but I think that for the amount of stuff you are getting it is probably cheaper than it would be if you bought all of those things. Also it must be so fun to get a new beauty item every day up to Christmas.

Friday Favourites (on Sunday): Scented Candles

So I sort of forgot/ didn't have time to do this on Friday. Sorry. I was actually really busy though (I know excuses, excuses...). I had school and a driving lesson, and I had to go birthday present shopping, and then I had to babysit as well. And then I meant to do it yesterday afternoon, but my parents were having people over for dinner and I somehow volunteered/ got forced into making desert. So anyway sorry about this being so late, and this weeks Friday Favourites is scented candles.

I have really been loving scented candles lately. Especially Christmassy ones. I recently bought a 'Christmas Cupcake' one and it smells so good. I'm not sure that it is that Christmassy though, but it still makes my room smell really nice.

Mondays

Hi guys, so I have something totally crazy that I want to tell you. I never thought that I would say this, but... I really love Mondays. I actually think that Mondays are pretty great. Yes it is the beginning of another long, tiring school week. But because it is the beginning of the week you aren't yet tired. Well actually I am in a constant state of tiredness, but I am not as tired on Monday as I will be on Thursday. So I think that we all need to stop hating Monday's so much and think of it as the beginning of a week which is going to be so much better than the one before.

But I suppose the main reason that I like Mondays so much are that this year I only have one lesson on a Monday. It is in the morning which means that I still have to get up early, but at least I am home by 12 after having seen my friends and had a quick hot chocolate or browse in the shops.

So if you have a full school day on Monday then I can still totally understand why you hate it.

Friday Favourites: Christmas Movies

It is the 6th of December and I haven't done a single post about Christmas yet. This is quite surprising! So anyway I thought that for this weeks Friday Favourites post I would do my top 5 Christmas movies (in no particular order).

1. Home Alone. I didn't know which of the films to choose so this basically just means all 4 of them. They are all great.

2. Love Actually. I don;t know how much I can count this as a favourite Christmas movie because I will watch it at any time of year, but I couldn't not include it here.

3. Elf. This is one of the funniest Christmas movies. And it is on TV a lot at Christmas, so whenever you see it you know it is nearly Christmas.

4. A Christmas Carol. This is a classic Christmas movie which everyone knows the story of, and I don't think it will ever get old. I should really read the book one of these days.

5. The Polar Express. I love this movie so much, and I watch it with my cousins who have it on DVD every year.

Patience, grasshopper

My University application was sent off by my school about a week ago. I don't have any offers yet, and I am so impatient to get some (although it hasn't been long at all yet). I am just not at all good at waiting patiently. And I hate the fact that I have no control over what happens. There is nothing I can do now to make them accept me. And I am terrified that I won't get any offers. Although at the same time (I don't mean this in a snobby way) I don't really think I am expecting a rejection. I mean I know that I could get rejected, but I think that if I do it will still take me quite a lot by surprise.

And that brings me on to the other thing that I wanted to talk about. Showing that you care. If something bad happens (like a rejection from a university for example) then I will always pretend to everyone that I don't care. That it doesn't bother me. I didn't want it that much anyway. Even though inside I know that I do care. I care a lot. But I can never admit that to people. Because if I can convince them that I don't care, I can convince myself too. But of course that doesn't work. You can't fool yourself. Or if you do it can only be for a brief moment.

The other thing is that I don't want to look weak. Admitting that I care and admitting that I am upset is showing weakness. But that is stupid. Because if someone else were to say that they were upset I wouldn't see them as weak at all. I would see it as normal, expected.

So if you can admit to people that you are upset and you do care I admire you.

How Clever am I?

I went shopping with my mum today to get a new ski jacket, and some other stuff. All in all it was a pretty successful shopping trip. There was lots of trying on of shoes and coats, which meant putting my bag down. In case you don't know already I am extremely clumsy and forgetful and always losing things. So anyway I was trying on a pair of snow boots, and I picked up the box to go to the counter, and I picked up my carrier bag, and then I went to pick up my school bag... but it wasn't there. So we had to go back to all of the shops we had been in, and ask if I had left my bag there. Which was slightly very awkward. But we found my bag i the end, so it was all okay.

Friday Favourites: Catching Fire

I actually went to see this film last Friday, but I had already written that post so I am posting about it today instead.

So first of all I want to say that the film is amazing! It is really true to the book (although I read it over a year ago, so I don't remember too well..), which is always a good thing. Catching Fire was my favourite of the three books, so considering that it makes sense that I liked it better than the first film (although I did love that as well).

It was really sad, and I cried multiple times, but there were funny bits too. The funnies part of the film has got to be Katniss's face in the scene where Johanna is naked in the lift:

Anyway, it was really good, and if you haven't seen it then you definitely should! You should also watch the first Hunger Games film if you haven't seen that yet (before watching catching fire. And I would also recommend the books, the film made me really want to re-read them all.

Also while I am on the subject of the Hunger Games, have any of you seen the bad lip reading video on YouTube?

Opposites?

"So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be" - The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Stephen Chbosky

The first time I read The Perks of Being a Wallflower I don't think that this quote made much sense to me. Surely it is not possible to be both happy and sad at the same time. Surely two opposite emotions cannot exist together. Of course there are moments of happiness within your sadness, or moments of sadness within your happiness. But in these instances the two emotions do not actually exist together, one simply gives way to the other for a while.

But now I completely understand it. For I am both happy and sad, and somehow neither, all at the same time.

Love Always,
Freya

Friday Favourites: Salt Spray

I have been thinking about doing a weekly feature on my blog for a while, and I have decided to do something which will be called Friday Favourites, and will be done every Friday of course. So basically I am going to tell you guys about something that I have been loving this week. It could be a beauty product, or a TV show, or a website, or well anything really. I'm pretty excited! So here is the first ever Friday Favourites post:

I decided to try out salt spray the other day, and I have really been loving it! I find that because my hair is quite long it can sometimes go a bit flat, so this is really good to add some texture. I think that this looks great when you do a high ponytail, because it just makes it a lot more textured and a bit messier. It is also good for creating really natural looking beachy waves. And the best thing is that you don't need any heat, so you aren't damaging your hair.

The salt spray that I have is the Got2b above. I find that it works really well, and it was also really cheap (I got it for £4 in Superdrug). I would definitely recommend it.

What do you think of this new feature?

Why I hate Public Transport

Yesterday me and a friend got the bus to another friends house (the one who's birthday it was). As you might know I am not a fan buses, and last time we tried to get the bus to her house it didn't work out too well (you can read about that here). So anyway it was about 5 o'clock, which meant that it was already dark. We couldn't remember which side the bus stop was on, so we were both looking out on either side for my friends road. And then the bus driver stopped at this random bus stop, and was like "you have to get off here, because I am going back to the town centre now". He had taken a shorter route and missed out a load of stops, just because he felt like it. So we got off the bus, and we were just standing at this random bus stop in the dark, by a creepy wood, with no idea where we were. We had to ring my friend to come and rescue us in the end!

Another thing that I hate on buses are people who have a conversation with their friend who is sitting at the other end of the bus. If you want to talk go and sit next to them, don't shout down the bus so that everyone has to listen to your conversation.

I generally prefer trains to buses, but sometimes there are really annoying people on trains too. Like today. I sat down by myself, and then this huge group of people came and sat around me. They were being really loud, and they were all drinking. Even though it was about 10am. It was just really annoying.

I also hate the people on trains who sit at a table when they are by themselves. Why not just sit in a two seat? They really don't need 4 seats to themselves. Oh and I also hate the people who make you move your stuff so that they can sit in the seat next to you, even though the carriage is pretty much empty. Why do that?

I hope you enjoyed this random little rant,

Freya x

18

It is my friend's birthday today, so last night we had a little celebration. We watched movies, ordered a takeaway, and she is turning 18 (the legal age for drinking in the UK) so of course we had some alcohol. We didn't get drunk though. I have actually never been drunk, and right now I am not really in a hurry for that to happen. This quote from Looking For Alaska sums up my feelings about drinking pretty well:
But that night, the booze felt great, as the warmth of the wine in my stomach spread through my body. I didn't like feeling stupid or out of control, but I liked the way it made everything (laughing, crying, peeing in front of your friends) easier.
I like the way it makes you a bit happier, everything is a bit funnier, and the feeling of warmth throughout your body. But unlike some people I know I don't think you have to have alcohol to have fun. You definitely don't need to drink it all the time, or get drunk every weekend. Every once in a while it is quite nice though.

Personal Statements and Ucas

I finished my personal statement yesterday and sent my ucas (basically how you apply to university's in the UK) off today! I don't know how many of you have had to write a personal statement, or will have to write one in the future, but it is the most awful thing I have ever had to write. I am so glad that I have finished it and it is all sent off.

Now I just have to wait for my school to check my application, enter my predicted grades, and for my tutor to write my reference, and then it will be sent to the universities.

I am pretty terrified right now if I'm honest. What if I don't get any offers? It terrifies me that there is no longer anything I can do about it. I just have to wait and hope that I get some offers. Fingers Crossed.

Embarrassing Moments

Today at school my friend randomly asked me what my most embarrassing moment is. If you are as clumsy as I am you will have a lot of embarrassing moments. So this gave me the idea to do a blog post telling you guys some embarrassing things that have happened to me.

  • I'll start with a classic - the skirt-tucked-into-your-knickers. So I go to the toilet at school, and I come out and walk back to the classroom. The lunch bell hasn't gone yet, so everyone is just standing around talking. After about 5 minutes this girl is like "Uh, Freya, your skirt is tucked into your knickers". So I had been standing there for 5 minutes with my knickers on full display! And to make it even worse I was wearing the most horrible granny knickers - you know that pair that you only wear when all your others are in the wash. And I must have walked down the corridor with my knickers showing as well.
  • I was playing Manhunt  with some friends, and me and two other people were being chased by someone on the other team. So the guy in front runs to the end of the road and jumps over a fence and into the field. Then the next guy does the same. They both made it without any problems, and it isn't a very high fence, so I'm thinking OK I can probably do that. So I run to the end of the road and jump the fence. But, my foot gets stuck in the top wire of the fence, and I trip and fall flat on my face...
  • At our prom, everyone stood outside for photographs and to have some virgin cocktails before we could go in. I was standing around talking to my friends for a bit, and then it was time to go in. So everyone started walking in, but I couldn't. The heel of my shoe was stuck in a gap between the floor tiles. My friend had to pull it out for me, and that is why I don't normally wear heels.
For some reason these are the only things that I can think of at the moment. I assure you though I have had hundreds of embarrassing moments. While we are on the topic of embarrassing moments, don't you hate it when you say/do something really embarrassing and then your friend feels the need to make it even worse by saying "you've gone so red". That is a big problem for me, because I blush all the time!

Adiós Amigos!

Film Review: One Chance

Over half term I had time for a couple of cinema trips, so I thought I would do a quick post about one of the films I went to see.

One Chance tells the true (although of course tweaked to make a better movie) story of Paul Potts, the 2007 winner of Britain's Got Talent. Paul Potts is played by James Cordon, who I absolutely love, and he didn't disappoint.

The film made me laugh at times, and at times it brought a tear to my eye (although just to warn you I cry at far too many films!). It was such a nice story, and really touching. The fact that it had funny parts as well made it even better.  I really enjoyed it and would thoroughly recommend going to see it if you get the chance.

Back to Reality

Half term has finished and today was the first day back at school. That means no more lie ins. No more movie marathons. No more long lazy days and late nights.

It is time to return to reality.

It is time to return to history coursework, personal Statements, university choices, homework, and of course ucas. I already can't wait for this term to end.

Looking Back

I have had this blog for over a year now, and I was randomly wondering how much I have changed since my first ever post (which was in may 2012). So I had a look at it, and surprisingly not much has really changed.

I mean I am no longer obsessed with reading fanfiction or glee. But I am pretty sure that I have new TV show obsessions to replace that.

The other thing that I noticed was that in that first ever post I was worrying about choosing my A-level options. That is pretty similar to right now, in that I am now choosing which universities to apply to. I have pretty much chosen, but I still do this thing where I will keep changing my mind right up until the last minute. And then in the end I will choose what I chose in the first place. I don't know why that is, I am just really bad at making decisions. I am always scared that I will make the wrong ones.

Something that has changed since then is that I thought that I had to have my whole life figured out. Now I have decided what degree I want to do, but beyond that I have no idea. And that is okay. I don't have to decide everything now, because even if I do I will probably change mind by the time that time comes anyway.

Similarly to that first post, I am going to leave you with a quote from my favourite book:

"You spend your whole life stuck in the labyrinth, thinking how you'll escape it one day, and how awesome it will be, and imagining that future keeps you going, but you never do it. You just use the future to escape the present" - Looking for Alaska by John Green

Halloween

It's Halloween soon! I love Halloween, mainly because of the excuse to dress up, and the cool Halloween cakes and sweets and stuff.

Eerie eyeball pops
How great do these look?
Me and my friend were planning our Halloween, and we have decided that we are going to have a Halloween themed movie night. I looove horror movies, but she hates them, so we have decided to watch some non-scary Halloween films.

Some of my favourites are: Coraline, The Corpse Bride, Paranorman, Monster House, The Scooby-Doo movie and The Addams family.

If you want to watch Horror Movies my top recommendations would have to be The Ring and Sinister. They are both so good!

I hope that everyone has an awesome Halloween, and if you are in the UK a great half term as well (only two days to go!).

Being Kinda Sociable for Once

Wow so I have been away from this blog for ages! For once I have actually been really busy; with school, attempting to write my personal statement, open days, driving lessons, trying to get a job (because my parents will not shut up about it).

So anyway I thought I would tell you about a really fun night I had the other night. I actually went to two party's in one night. I know right, me? The girl who spends most Saturday nights watching films and marathoning TV shows? Yes, well anyway. This girl who I am friends with just turned 18, so she was having a party. It was a party in a hall which isn't really my kind of thing. I just always find them kind of awkward. Fortunately my friend does too, so we spent most of the time sitting around drinking and talking. So we stayed there for an hour, and then we were a bit bored so we were going to go back to my friends house and watch a film (being the extremely sociable people that we are ;)). But then my friend remembered that she had been invited to a house party as well, so we decided to stop by. It was pretty fun, although we had to leave quite early because one of my other friend's was being picked up at 11.30, and we had to drop her off. So then we went back to my friends house and watched Big Bang Theory (which, in my opinion, becomes a lot funnier at midnight) and ate Pizza.

So that was pretty random, but I just felt like I wanted to write something so that this little blog doesn't feel too neglected :)

Unorganisedness

So I took my driving theory test yesterday. I passed (yay!), but it was still a rather stressful experience. Not because of the actual test, which is reasonably straightforward as long as you have revised, but because of my unorganisedness (I am aware that that isn't a word, but it is really the best way to describe is so lets just pretend that it is).

On the morning of the test I was just about to get in the car when my mum asked "do you need your provisional licence". Until this moment I had completely forgotten the part of the email saying that I needed both the photo-card and paper part of my licence. So I ran back inside and found the photo-card easily enough. But I couldn't find the paper part anywhere. I was of course panicking and frantically emptying drawers onto my bedroom floor. My mum then suggested that I take my passport instead, which I couldn't find either.

Eventually I found my passport and we set off. I was still feeling apprehensive as it had specifically said on the email that you would need both parts.Luckily about 10 minutes into the journey my dad rang to say that he had found the paper part of my licence in his drawer. So he then had to try to make to the test centre in time. Fortunately he did, and I was able to sit the test.

Freya x

P.s I start school tomorrow and I think that I only have one pen that works, so the unorganisedness continues, and I evidently didn't learn from my mistake yesterday! ;)

No, I haven't abandoned this blog completely

Wow. Okay so it has been over two months since I last posted. Sorry guys. I am still alive, I haven't abandoned this blog and as usual I have some excuses for you. You see my internet was broken for ages. And then I went to Africa. And then I came back and my internet is fixed (yay!), but my laptop is so broken and annoying so I have been using my brother's. I don't really want to blog on there because he doesn't know about this blog.

So anyway what has happened since I posted last? School finished. I turned 17. I got a car! I went on my trip to Africa (and it was amazing!). I got my AS results (two A's and two B's). And I think that is about it.

Superglue and Duct Tape

I have to say that these are two of my favourite things right now. And I am going to say that it is because I am practicing for when I am a broke student, rather than the more likely reason that I can't be bothered to go out and buy a new pair of shoes. (Just to clarify I fixed my shoes using superglue, not duct tape as that would  probably not look great.)

The more important thing that I needed to fix was not a pair of shoes, but my laptop. My laptop is currently rather broken. The fan doesn't work unless you shake it, and then it makes an incredibly annoying noise. The screen is also now only half attached to the keyboard. So of course that is where the duct tape comes in.

I am actually rather proud of my DIY Duct Tape solution. Although, the screen can't bend and is stuck in a slightly awkward position. Hmm let's hope I get a new one soon.

No More Exams!

I had my last exam yesterday! Exams are finally over! It feels so weird to not have any revision to do and to be able to just do nothing. Well for a few days at least, and then it's back to school for me.

I was going to go Thorpe park to celebrate with my friends, but we decided to go in summer instead because then my friend will be able to drive on the motorway, so she can drive us there instead of having to get the train. So now I am literally going to be nothing these few days off.

Well yesterday I went to play crazy-golf, which was fun, because I haven't been since I was about 10. And we went to McDonald's and I got a happy meal, because you know I am really 5 years old. I even got one of the toys, it was so exciting! ;)

Oh I just remembered they are filming a movie where I live! It has Matt Damon and George Clooney and some other celebrities in it, so I might go and wander round town tomorrow in the hope of seeing some celebrities!

In other news, my provisional licence came today! I am so excited to be able to start learning to drive in less than a month.

Wonderful People

I lost my ipod touch last week, I think that it fell out of my bag as I got out of my friend's car. But luckily someone picked it up, and he sent a message to my friend to say that he had found it. At this point I thought I had left it in my friend's car, so I just about to call her when I got a text from my friend who had recieved the message.

So now Thanks to this wonderful person I have my beloved ipod back.

Exam Season

So it's that time of year again. The time where we have to abandon our social lives (not that I have much of one anyway), lock ourselves in our bedrooms and try to frantically cram in as much revision as we can without too much procrastnation.

My life right now pretty much consists of revision , procrastination, exams... and a little bit more procrastination. My first two exams were on Tuesday, and I think that they went OK. Well hopefully anyway. Luckily I didn't have any other exams this week, so I have had the rest of the week to revise for next week, which is when the majority of my exams are.

Good Luck in your Exams everyone

Growing Up

On Friday I went round my friend's house, she can drive now so she picked us (me and 3 other friends) up from school. Being in a car driven by my friend I actually felt so grown up. Grown up in a good way. The type of grown up that gives you freedom and independence.

But lately I have also been feeling like I am grown up in a bad way. The kind of grown up where I have to make big life decisions. I say that this is 'grown up in a bad way' because it is scary, and I don't know if I am ready to make decisions that could affect my whole future. But will I ever be ready? Is anyone ever ready? Does anyone really know what they want to do? Maybe a few do. But I think that for most of us we just have to take the leap. We have to decide something, and hope to god that we chose well.

I went to a University fair with school last week and I think that I have decided that I want to study psychology. What I want to do after that I don't know. But hey, I still have a few years to figure that one out.

My Current Clothes Wishlist

I got let out of school 15 minutes early today, so I had some time to kill, which I spent browsing in New Look. I didn't actually plan on buying anything, but as I'm sure I have mentioned I have a little obsession with New York, so I just couldn't resist this t-shirt:
Black (Black) Black Lost My Heart NYC T-Shirt | 278061701 | New Look
I also saw another T-shirt that I wanted:
Charcoal (Grey) Grey Nerdy Cat T-Shirt | 276170603 | New Look
I personally think that I am a bit too nerdy, to wear any of these 'Nerd' or 'Geek' T-shirts that lots of people are wearing, but for this one I could make an exception. You can buy it here.

I also saw a really nice dress, but I can't find a picture of it unfortunately. My wardrobe basically consists of Jeans and T-shirts, and I never really wear dresses, but the weather is starting to warm up a bit...

Life lessons

So I am back from skiing (a day early because it decided to pour with rain for all of yesterday and ruin all the snow), and while I was there I learnt a valuable life lesson. This lesson was: Always shave your legs - even when you are going on a ski holiday with your family.

Let me explain. Friday night we were on our way to the ski resort, we stopped at a service station to get some dinner and fill up the car. I was (for a reason that I don't remember) racing my brother to the door. We were running. There were some small steps. I didn't see these steps (it was dark remember. Next thing I know I am lying on the ground, with the blood from my knee soaking into my jeans. That makes it sound worse than it was, there wasn't much blood.

So a couple of hours of driving later and we have arrived. I get out of the car and my knee has swelled up to approximately the size of Australia.

Now skip ahead to saturday morning and I am in the pharmacy with my dad, having already dropped my brothers off for their snowboard lesson - which I was meant to be taking with them. Neither me nor my dad can speak much french, so we were trying to explain to the woman that we needed something for my knee. So eventually my dad tells me to just show her my knee. I was thinking "no, my legs are so hairy at the moment", but luckily I had the excuse that I was dressed in full ski gear.

We managed to explain it to the woman in the end, so all was well. But guys seriously remember this lesson!
